INSPIRED by this year’s Tour de Yorkshire cycle race, 42 staff from Bradford-based motors retailer JCT600 are planning to raise money for charity through a gruelling 12-hour non-stop cycle challenge.
The family-run firm, which is the official car supplier of the Tour de Yorkshire, will stage the event on Wednesday, April 22, in aid of the company’s nominated charity for 2015, the Alzheimer’s Society.
Teams of six employees will compete in relays at seven JCT600 dealerships, including the Bradford BMW showroom, on turbo trainers .
Martin Holmes, JCT600 brand financial controller said: “Having taken part in a 640-mile cycle ride for JCT600 last summer which raised a significant sum for charity, we thought that another Tour-inspired event would be popular with our colleagues and customers.
“Even for keen cyclists, taking to the saddle for so many hours is pretty daunting.
"And there is already fierce competition between the dealerships so we will all be pushing ourselves hard.”
John Tordoff, chief executive, added: “As the region gears up for the Tour de Yorkshire, I’m sure that our cycle challenge will help everyone to get in the mood for another summer of cycling. I wish all the teams success; the event will create a fantastic atmosphere in the showrooms as well as great camaraderie among colleagues and hopefully will also raise lots of funds for a great cause, Alzheimer’s Society.”
