TRANSPORT and logistics recruitment firm Driver Hire was among sponsors of a football match to commemorate the impromptu football games played between opposing troops on the Western Front in December 1914.
Driver Hire supported the Game of Truce commemorative match between the British Army and German Bundeswehr teams at the Aldershot Town ground.
Spectators included World Cup and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton, Football Association chairman Greg Dyke and General Sir Nicholas Carter, chief of the General Staff and president of the Army FA.
The British Army squad won 1-0 .
Richard Owen-Hughes, Driver Hire group marketing director, said: “Driver Hire has worked with many people from the British armed forces. A number of our franchisees are ex-services. So we’re thrilled to be one of the key sponsors of this event. It marks a poignant moment in the First World War and a symbol of humanity on the battlefield.”
