THE Lawson farming family from Arthington maintained their title record at the Christmas Craven dairy auction by clinching the show championship for the second year running.
David Lawson and daughter Suzy bagged the title at Skipton Auction Mart with the first prize calven heifer from their Newbirks Holstein herd which can trace its roots back to 1940, when the original Jazz cow was purchased by Mr Lawson’s grandfather.
The victor achieved the day’s top price of £2,500, selling to father-and-son dairymen Stephen and Edward Jeanes, of Glusburn, who have also been Lawson show champions previously.
The sale featured a 42-strong entry, which saw 22 pedigree newly-calven heifers – average £1,755 per head.
