Ilkley Beer Festival will feature a new brew commemorating one of the event’s founders who was also a leading member of the town’s community for many years.
Wharfedale Brewery, housed at the Flying Duck pub in Church Street, will launch a tribute ale to celebrate the life of Geoffrey Vere MBE, who died in 2013 at the age of 88.
As well as developing the Ilkley Good Neighbours Scheme and designing the Clarke Foley Centre, Mr Vere was the longest serving member of Ilkley and District Round Table where he was honorary life president.
The new beer, a premium golden pale ale, is called Sir Geoff – Mr Vere’s nickname among Ilkley Round Table members.
Brewery founder Stewart Ross said: “Sir Geoff played an influential role in so many of our lives and we wanted to create something befitting of the enormous dedication and contribution he gave to the people of Ilkley and the town generally.”
