Nearly a third of Yorkshire’s small and medium firms have put sustainability as a top three priority for 2014, according to research from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.
The bank says it reflects renewed confidence and a desire to focus on developing their businesses.
The findings show that many regional businesses are still focused on traditional ‘green’ activities, including energy saving and recycling, rather than activities relating to supply chains and sourcing.
Martyn Kendrick, Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking area director SME banking, said: “Businesses in Yorkshire clearly see the benefits of sustainability and they are carrying out their environmental responsibilities.
“But for SMEs, sustainability also means interacting with charities, social enterprises and the community in which they operate; working responsibly within their supply chain and engaging with the next generation, through, for example, apprenticeships.”
