Dr Bob Dugdale, former Bradford Royal Infirmary director of medical physics, has been appointed chairman of Bradford-based cash plan provider Sovereign Health Care for a three-year term.

He takes over as the business approaches the end of its 140th anniversary year. Dr Dugdale has served on the eight-strong board since 2008.

He said: “Since it was established in 1873, Sovereign has transformed itself into the business that exists today and is proud to have retained its independent status delivering affordable and usable health care cash plans, whilst maintaining its tradition of charitable giving through its Charitable Trust.

“I’m delighted to chair the board as we strive to deliver continuous growth into 2014 and beyond.”

Chief executive Russ Piper said: “Welcoming a new chairman is another reason to celebrate our 140th year.

“The Sovereign board has historically comprised of locally-based professionals who can bring their expertise in finance, law and human resources to help support the running of the business.

“2013 has been a busy year.

“We have generated significant new business, grown our overall customer numbers by around five per cent and hosted a very special charity initiative to celebrate our 140th anniversary.

“We hope to continue this positive momentum into 2014.”
