A dental surgeon has relaunched the practice he bought after working there for two years, creating new jobs in the process.

Dr Ritesh Lad has used a £330,000 loan from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking towards expansion and renovation of the NHS practice on Idle Road, Bradford. Now rebranded as R Dental Clinic, the practice has operated since the 1950s as C J Shaw & Associates, where Dr Lad had worked as an associate dentist for two years. He bought the business in 2010.

Following a planning application and re-design period, work began last July to upgrade the traditional house-style two-surgery practice, including improving access for the less able, modernisation and expanding the facilities.

R Dental Clinic now employs ten staff, with recruits including a dental hygienist, a second full-time receptionist and an apprentice dental nurse.

There are also plans to take on an extra dentist as well as becoming a training practice for newly qualified dentists which will further improve the availability of both NHS and private dental services.

Dr Lad has invested in three new dental chairs, X-ray units and other equipment to enable the practice to offer a wider range of treatments, including cosmetic dentistry.

He approached Lloyds Bank for a Government-backed Enterprise Finance Guarantee loan.

Dr Lad said: “The practice really has undergone a complete transformation, creating a modern and welcoming place for all our patients, as well as laying the foundations for our continued growth over the coming years, as we aim to become one of the most modern and patient centred practices in the North of England.

Steve Midgley, healthcare banking relationship manager for Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “Dr Lad’s ability to successfully maintain patient care whilst also dealing with architects, planners and contractors demonstrates that his dental skills are matched by his business acumen.”

David Ward, MP for Bradford East, who attended the surgery opening, said: “NHS dental practices are an invaluable asset to our communities, and it’s important that patients have access to good quality dental care.”
