A Bradford finance business has been recognised for boosting the coffers of Britain’s lifeboat service by £200,000 – double the amount it set out to achieve.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is making a corporate supporter award to Yorkshire Building Society, which chose the RNLI as its adopted charity in 2012, pledging to raise £100,000, but raised twice that amount.
It was helped by a significant donation from the Yorkshire's charitable foundation.
YBS has extended the partnership with RNLI for another year with all 230 Yorkshire Building Society branches and offices continuing to hold fundraising activities throughout 2013.
Andy Caton, YBS corporate development director and trustee for the YBS Charitable Foundation, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be the recipient of this award and proud that we have managed to raise such a fantastic amount for the RNLI. Our people, together with our members, have worked incredibly hard to raise £200,000 for the RNLI – the largest total the society has ever raised for one charity. We look forward to handing over another fantastic amount to this great cause at the end of the year.”
Catherine Kaye, RNLI corporate partnerships manager, added: “Through the innovative fundraising efforts and dedicated support of their staff and customers, ranging from cycle rides and cake sales to raffles and skydives, they’ve already raised an impressive amount.
All funds raised by the Society will provide a vital lifeline to our charity, enabling us to train more volunteer lifeboat crew and lifeguards to continue saving lives at sea.”
