Developing filters to help prevent 4G mobile service interfering with television reception across Europe is providing a boost for Yeadon-based wireless communications systems firm Filtronic plc.

In a trading update for the period from December 1, the company said sales of the filters, which started in March, were meeting expectations and driving its performance in the fourth quarter of the financial year and are predicted to help its wireless division exceed turnover.

Revenues and profits in its broadband operation are expected to meet expectations, even though a transition to production volumes on long-term customer programmes in millimetre wave and defence products has been delayed until the first quarter of the new financial year.

Overall, Filtronic says its full-year performance will be ahead of market expectations with group revenues expected to be about £38.5m.

Latens Systems, the Belfast-based subsidiary of Saltaire-based digital technology group Pace plc, plans to create 76 jobs and double its workforce after securing support from Invest NI.

Invest NI has offered Pace £472,500 towards the creation of the new software development jobs and £282,500, towards a £1m research project into a new content security and unified rights management product.
