A brewery has been awarded a commendation by the Society of Independent Brewers at its Local Brewing Business Awards.

Judges commended Saltaire Brewery in the "Best Packaging Initiative" category for its bottle labelling.

The awards were established to celebrate local brewers' creativity, innovation and commitment to excellence.

The brewery's managing director, Paul Simpson, said: "The design on the bottle label supports our mission to inform - to educate beer drinkers on what goes into making a great British pint.

"The labels contain a full recipe, with the malts used and even the percentages included in the grist.

"We also provide details of the bittering and aroma hop, as well as the original gravity to which each beer is brewed.

"The labels also explain the style of beer and a short tasting note.

"We believe our labels are unique and distinctive really helping beer drinkers appreciate the different elements that make up the wide range of beers now available."

Saltaire Brewery worked with local designer, Imelda Kay, of Studio K, formerly Head of Design at the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television, to develop the brand, logo, tone and look across all media including the bottle labelling.
