The Champions League announced its grand arrival with a deluge of goals this week.

Unfortunately, not many of them were on our telly.

Bradford City’s latest home triumph put paid to watching the billionaires’ bash at the Bernabeu.

So I settled down the following night safe in the knowledge that I would not miss a kick. Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, Celtic ... all the drama would soon unfold over a generous glass of vino tinto.

But there was too much going on and that soon became a problem.

Five minutes in and the itchy flicking finger began twitching. “Let’s see how Bayern Munich are getting on against Valencia ... Cluj, where are they from ... wonder if we’re the only front room in the country watching Bate ...”

Trying to watch all eight games at once means you inevitably miss the major incidents from all of them.

Both Oscar’s goals at Stamford Bridge passed us by. So did the Juventus reponse.

For a good half hour, we were blissfully unaware that Nani had missed a penalty against Galatasaray. Or that Barcelona were actually losing at home.

At least we did watch a good chunk of Celtic and Benfica expecting plenty of goals. It finished the only 0-0 of the round.

It’s amazing to think you can beam to any game in the competition, however far away and bizarre. But choice is clearly not wise.

You can have too much of a good thing and end up seeing very little.

But hey, I can tell you that the Nordsjaelland back four needs to tighten up.
