Bradford fundraisers have climbed Britain’s highest peak, Ben Nevis, to raise £15,000 for Syrian refugees.
The Human Relief Foundation team managed to conquer the Scottish mountain and get back to base in nine and a half hours. The hikers were hot on the heels of 28 trekkers who climbed Mount Snowdon in June for the charity, raising £8,000 for the Syrian Aid Appeal.
Fundraising co-ordinator for HRF Khalil Benkhalil said: “This is the first time we have ever climbed Ben Nevis for the charity. We hope to raise at least £15,000 for Syrian refugees.”
A charity spokesman said the trekkers had done the climb in record time and were taking the day off to rest their weary feet.
Funds raised on the trip will be used to give food, water and shelter to Syrian refugees stranded in Jordan and Iraq.
The charity said around 1,000 refugees are arriving in Jordan every day, resources are strained and the atmosphere in the camps is tense.
Human Relief Foundation, a Bradford-based charity established in 1991, has an ongoing food distribution project with the World Food Programme.
