Saltaire is getting set for a riotous party night this Sunday, with an award-winning band direct from Orkney.
Billed as “the best part-time band you’ll ever hear”, The Chair are heading back to the World Heritage Site for a second time with their fiddles, banjos, accordions and guitars.
The man responsible for bringing them back is SaltaireLive’s Simon Heginbotham, who says even the most reserved members of the audience will be beating a path to the dance floor at Victoria Hall.
“Those who saw them on their last visit, or who have been lucky enough to witness one of those unforgettable nights in the halls and pubs of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland when the instruments come out and the music hots up, will know what to expect. Every show with The Chair is a party,” he added.
The Chair’s accolades include Scotland’s Best Newcomer Award and Best Band at the Scottish Folk Awards.
Despite their success, family commitments and young children means the band has chosen to stay at home in Orkney and continue their day jobs, rather than take to a life on the road.
But luckily for Saltaire they have been coaxed across the border into England for this one performance which is part of the Saltaire Festival line-up. Support on the night comes from The Broken Hearts Club Band, whose lively skiffle-based tunes have been developing a strong and loyal following, both at home in and around Saltaire and further afield.
Simon said: “We wanted to make sure that our Saltaire Festival show is a lively, fun night, with a party atmosphere, and after the Chair’s show last time they came, they were the obvious band to fit the bill. It’s not easy to find a time when these guys are all free to travel out of Orkney, so we’re really excited we’ve managed to get them down here again.”
Doors open at 7.45pm. For tickets, visit saltairelive.co.uk.
