A postbox has been painted gold in tribute to golden girl Danielle Brown who successfully defended her Paralympic archery title in a tense final in the women’s individual compound competition.

Danielle, 24, of Lothersdale, near Keighley , secured a gold medal after beating her teammate, Mel Clarke, in a nail-biting match.

Andy Hodge, Hebden’s Olympic rower who has also secured a double gold, paid tribute to Danielle.

“We now have another golden postbox for Craven,” said Andy, who like, Danielle, is a former pupil at South Craven School at Cross Hills .

“It’s a great thing for the school, which has been investing in sport over the last year with its new hall.”

Danielle is a former pupil at Lothersdale Primary and the current headteacher, Jo Robinson, praised her.

“We’re thrilled she got a gold medal,” she said. “The children had been desperate to know whether Lothersdale would get a golden postbox.”

To mark her achievement, the Royal Mail has painted the postbox in Swadford Street, Skipton .
