Terry Nation was a man in the right place at the right time with the right approach to the burst of creative inventiveness in British television in the 1960s and 1970s.
He invented the Daleks, who have been an iconic part of British culture since the early Sixties and are featuring in the new series of Doctor Who.
He devised and wrote the first series of Survivors, the story of a pandemic that wipes out most of humanity and follows the struggle of those left behind to rebuild human civilisation and survive against all the odds.
He wrote for Tony Hancock and the Avengers, as well as many other series involving high adventure and strange notions. Alwyn Turner has written the first full-length biography of the man and will present the book and slides to illustrate it on Tuesday, September 11, at 7.30pm in the Salt Building, Victoria Road, Saltaire . This is an event for all ages and all those who appreciate the wonder of television in the late 20th century.
