A spectacular international food and drink “mini-fest” is at the heart of the Saltaire Festival .

On Saturday and Sunday, September 15, and 16, Roberts Park will be transformed into a food garden where visitors can enjoy a series of cookery demonstrations, tastings, food stalls, music and some of the county’s finest Asian food.

Among the distinguished line-up is Yorkshire chef Stephanie Moon, who has appeared on BBC2’s Great British Menu for the past two years. Stephanie will be giving an insight into her successful career and sharing expert tips in a live cookery display.

The food and drink festival has been introduced to the Saltaire Festival by new headline sponsor, Aagrah, Yorkshire’s Kashmiri restaurant business.

Julia Calver, chairman of the Saltaire Festival said: “Aagrah is offering visitors a unique and exciting gastronomic experience, something that is completely new to the festival’s programme.

“We’re hoping every guest picks up some culinary pearls of wisdom throughout the weekend, and recipe cards will be available for all visitors. We advise getting to the park in plenty of time to find a seat. It will certainly be a festival highlight.”

Other demonstrations in the Chefs’ Theatre, which are free to attend, include authentic Gujarati vegetarian cooking, handmade confectionery, fruit sculpting, Thai and Kashmiri cuisine and mastering the perfect seafood. Raja, head chef at Aagrah Midpoint, will be demonstrating unique dishes from his native Sri Lanka.

Aagrah’s managing director, Mohammed Aslam, said: “We’ll be having exciting master class demonstrations over the finale weekend, an Aagrah Food Garden restaurant, as well as music and entertainment.

“Food brings people together. We’d like everyone to come and have a good time.”

Saltaire Festival runs from September 6 to 16.

Highlights include an evening with broadcaster and author Stuart Maconie, the opportunity to meet top children's author Anne Fine, and a festival finale with country music star Hank Wangford with his band The Lost Cowboys.
