Knitting enthusiast Heather Savage has paid homage to Bradford’s famous textile manufacturer and the village’s benefactor Sir Titus Salt – in the form of an 18-inch knitted doll.
The figure, which is made entirely out of yarn and features Sir Titus’s trademark grey beard and black top hat, will be on public display at various undisclosed locations in celebration of the district’s rich woollen heritage during the Tenth Saltaire Festival .
Mrs Savage is appealing to knitters across Bradford district to embrace their skills and join forces for a fun community project.
Heather, who runs Shipley College’s Knit And Natter group, is encouraging knitters to take part in a ‘yarnbombing’ exercise for the Tenth Saltaire Festival after its success during the Saltaire Arts Trail in May.
She hopes to see the historic village’s leafy trees and railings wrapped in the community’s knitted artwork throughout the festival, which runs from Thursday to September 16.
Mrs Savage said: “From beginners to professionals, we’d love to hear from you. Let’s get Bradford knitting again!”
