Bradford’s City Park will play host to the three-day World Curry Festival later this month for the first time.

Organisers have held the event in Leeds for the past two years, but told the Telegraph & Argus they were delighted to be able to bring it to Bradford, which currently holds the Curry Capital of Britain title.

It will take place from Friday, September 21 to Sunday, September 23, and will see pop-up restaurants springing up, as well as live cookery demonstrations, with curries from different parts of the world on offer.

Organiser Zulfi Karim, who is from Bradford, said: “We are delighted as the organisers of the World Curry Festival to be coming to Bradford which this year is the UK Capital of Curry as well.

“We feel that Bradford is a great backdrop for this year’s World Curry Festival and the City Park is an excellent venue.

“With all the food-related businesses in Bradford and curry houses, we hope to bring a great show to Bradford.”

He added that there would be well-known regional chefs taking part, as well as those that are nationally and internationally known.

More details are expected to emerge tomorrow at a launch event in the city.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford will be attending the launch. Councillor Dale Smith said: “The city centre will be full of flavours from around the world over the World Curry Festival weekend. It will be a great attraction and we are proud to be hosting such a festival in our city.”

The city is currently vying to retain its Curry Capital title for 2012 and organisers of the competition are expected to announce tomorrow the four local restaurants that will be involved in the bid.

Last time round the Aagrah, Kiplings, Prashad and Shimla Spice represented the city and helped Bradford take the prestigious title for the second time.

This year’s winner will be announced on October 29.
