Staff at Bradford Interchange had wet sponges thrown at them yesterday to raise money for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal at St James’s Hospital in Leeds.
Station manager Sam Jackson and Khadim Hussain, operation manager for bus company First, took to the stocks for half an hour to do their bit for the cause.
The event was part of a fun day at the Metro Travel Centre organised by bus service consultation manager Asmaa Hans, who is also taking on an Inca Trail trek in Peru in October to raise money for the cancer centre.
She said: “I always said I would raise money for cancer and it’s a local charity and they need all the help they can get.”
Other activities throughout the day included face-painting, a tombola and a raffle. The Trishool Dance Academy was also on hand to provide some modern Indian dance entertainment. Asmaa will take on the Inca Trail challenge with 24 others, including Mr Hussain.
She has already raised more than £3,000 of the £3,250 she needs and hoped that the fun day would help make up the remainder.
The Yorkshire Cancer Centre helps patients at St James’s Hospital by paying for new equipment, research and to provide ‘home comforts for those who stay there.
