Celebrations to mark the official opening of a new cycling and walking bridge across Manchester Road in Bradford are being held on Saturday.
Pupils at Newby Primary School will now have a safe route to use, and 11-year-old Mohammed Hamzah (pictured) will cut the ribbon on Saturday, having won a school competition to write a poem about what the bridge means to him.
A procession of children and adults with multi-coloured flags will then walk across the bridge, and there will be an afternoon of activities laid on, including a bouncy castle, balloon modelling and circus skills.
Bradford Council has worked with Sustrans to deliver the bridge after the charity secured £50 million nationwide in a public vote.
In addition, a portrait bench will be unveiled displaying three life-size characters chosen by the local community for their contributions, including Ian Greenwood, former leader of the Council who served as ward councillor for 17 years.
