The region’s ambulance service is appealing for people to use the 999 emergency number wisely during the Bank Holiday weekend to avoid any unnecessary pressure on the service.
It comes as Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust traditionally sees an increase in 999 calls over Bank Holiday periods.
People with minor ailments are being urged to think about other healthcare services available to them.
David Williams, deputy director of operations, said: “We don’t want to deter people from calling 999 in a genuine medical emergency. All we ask is that people think carefully about whether they really need an ambulance or whether someone else’s need could be greater.”
For advice and treatment for non-emergencies there are alternative options such as visiting a pharmacist, GP, walk-in centre or minor injuries unit, or phoning NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
