Police today confirmed that a 68-year-old man had been murdered at his home in Bradford.
The body of the victim, who has not yet been named by police, was found yesterday afternoon at the house in Rowlestone Rise, Ravenscliffe, by concerned neighbours.
Police and paramedics arrived at the scene at 4pm.
Last night a detailed examination of the scene was being carried out by forensic experts, who were also working inside a white tent which had been put up at the front of the house.
Two police officers were continuing to man a cordon outside the house today.
Some neighbours spoke of their shock and how scared they were of letting their children play in the nearby square near the home of the victim, who was believed to have lived alone.
They also spoke of strange cars driving up and down the road in the weeks leading up to the murder.
One woman said that she had not slept all night after hearing of the killing.
The investigation is being carried out by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team of West Yorkshire Police.
Anyone with information about the murder has been urged to call police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
