An MP is backing a campaign to slash fuel prices.
Skipton MP Julian Smith has signed-up to the Petrol Promise initiative, which is calling on oil companies to reduce charges at the pumps and for an investigation by the Office of Fair Trading into the fuel market.
Mr Smith said fuel costs were having a major impact on rural communities and businesses across North Yorkshire.
He said: “North Yorkshire is one of the most rural and remote areas of England and high fuel costs have been battering family budgets and business profit margins for too long.
“The Chancellor has done more since coming to office than Labour did in 13 years to ensure the Government plays its part in keeping fuel prices low. We now need to firmly focus the spotlight on the oil companies and the oil industry and I hope this campaign will prompt the Office of Fair Trading to undertake a root and branch review of the petrol and diesel market.”
