A wide range of activities and events are on offer across the district for families looking for some fun this bank holiday weekend.
There will be a fun run in Horton Park with Olympic prizes from cycling silver medallist Lizzie Armitstead up for grabs. In addition, an Olympic-themed open day will be held at Bradford’s popular water sports centre at Doe Park in Denholme .
The open day at Doe Park on Saturday, in conjunction with Denholme Sailing Club, will run from 10am until 3pm. It will cost £5 per person and people can try out sailing, canoeing and kayaking.
Helen’s Heritage Walks will be hosting a 90-minute walk around Haworth village and the moors complete with readings from Wuthering Heights from 2pm to 3.30pm on Saturday. Meet at West Lane, Haworth. Tickets are £6 for adults, £3 for children.
The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway will be running Haworth Haddock Trains on Saturday where visitors take two trips along the route and get a fish and chip supper. Howard Lloyd will be leading a six-and-a-half-mile taster walk around the Dalesway starting at the Old Bridge, Stockeld Road, Ilkley , from 10:30am. Call (01274) 432666.
A funfair will run until Tuesday at Bradford Moor Park.
On both Saturday and Sunday Cullingworth Scarecrow Festival will run at the village hall with all proceeds going to Sue Ryder’s Manorlands Hospice at Oxenhope and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
People will also have the chance to take a heritage tour of Keighley on an open-top bus on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call (01282) 413179.
On Sunday there will be a Horton Park Fun Run with races for all ages and abilities. It has been organised by the Joshua Project in association with Bradford Council, Klick Fitness, Friends of Horton Park and community groups. Winners will get prizes donated by Otley cyclist Lizzie Armitstead. The event starts at 10am with the 5k run from 11.30am and a 1k walk from 1pm.
Kings Hall at Ilkley will be opening up its Winter Gardens for afternoon tea on Sunday.
On Monday the St Ives Young Disabled Unit in Bingley holds a summer fair from 1pm to 4pm.
Some Leeds Rhinos rugby stars will be attending a charity event at Moor Valley Leisure Park in Hawksworth from 2.30pm to raise money for Epilepsy Action . There will also be a sing-along.
The annual Vernstock music event will be taking place at Bay Horse Court in Otley from noon till 6pm to raise money for charity.
