Thornton Recreation Centre is to close temporarily this weekend for a make-over.
The fitness suite and sports centre, which is on the Thornton Grammar School campus, will be repainted and new equipment installed. A total of 30 pieces of cardio vascular equipment including treadmills, cross trainers, steppers and spin bikes will be replaced.
The work means that the gym will close on Thursday and reopen on Tuesday, August 28.
Meanwhile the centre will close completely on Friday and Saturday while painting takes place and no sports hall bookings can therefore be made.
On Thursday, the facility will be open for sports hall bookings and outdoor pitches only.
On Sunday, the sports hall opens at 11am for football bookings, while the gym remains closed.
On Monday, the centre is closed for the bank holiday, then on Tuesday, August 28, the fitness suite will reopen, although there will be no classes.
The following day everything will be back to normal.
The gym originally opened in 2006 and was last upgraded in 2007.
Facilities include the fitness suite, a junior fitness suite and fitness classes.
Councillor Andrew Thornton , Bradford Council’s executive member for sport and leisure, said: “Hopefully this new equipment and better environment will encourage even more people to get out and bactive."
