This year’s Ilkley Arts Trail, running from October 6 to 14, will feature the work of nearly 50 artists which will be showcased in 28 venues around the town.
Organisers Lorna Bird and Lucia Smith have incorporated new spaces, including the Victorian Arcade and Ilkley Manor House Gallery and Museum.
“We hope to put Ilkley firmly on the map where visual arts are concerned, and our mission is to continue to support visual artists in the region to raise their profile, exhibit and sell their work across many more venues than are currently available to them locally,” said Lorna.
One artist has worked with trail organisers to research little-known sites of artistic interest in the Ilkley area. The resulting artwork will take the form of an intricate paper cut-out map of Ilkley and will be shown at the Manor House museum.
Locations include the facade of the old wool secretariat building on Valley Drive, Arts and Crafts movement features in the Methodist church at Ben Rhydding and abstract stained glass made from cutting edge materials in the 1960s at the Catholic church at Heathcote.
A Victorian doll’s house will feature interior design by The Secret Drawer and mini-art by Ilkley Art Trail artists, and Cakewalk will ‘pop up’ over the nine days of the trail at a venue on The Grove.
The Craiglands Hotel will host a makers’ gathering involving jewellers, ceramic workers and hat-makers, and the work of six artists will be displayed in some of the more unusual spaces in Christchurch.
