More than £1,000 has been raised by a charity football tournament in memory of a Keighley man killed in a construction accident in Bradford.
The latest instalment of the annual Stiggy Cup commemorated Highfield man Steven Allen, known to friends as Stiggy, who played football for Keighley Royal. He died in 2007.
The five-a-side contest featured 24 teams and took place at Silsden Football Club’s ground on Keighley Road.
There was also a tombola and raffle, stalls, children’s games, refreshments and a bar. Most of the proceeds will go towards the Handicapped Children’s Pilgrimage Trust.
Winning team was the Bridgers Bears, who beat the A Team 1-0 in the final. Among the A Team players were Steven Allen’s brother, Tom.
Most of the organisation for the day was done by Keighley men Martin Crangle and Derek Newiss.
Mr Allen’s mother, Judith, said: “It went very well considering the weather. The total we raised was down on last year, but then it was raining.
“Quite a few people came along - there was plenty of family and friends. This should be going ahead again next year.”
