Firefighters discovered three fires in a Bradford neighbourhood after they were called to a skip fire.

Crews from Fairweather Green fire station discovered a bin fire and a suspected attempt to set a BMW on fire after they were called to the skip incident in an alleyway between two rows of terraced houses in Stanmore Place, Lidget Green . Crew commander Ian Gobbi said the incident happened at 6.29am yesterday.

He said on arrival crews discovered a bin on fire and later discovered an attempted arson attack on a BMW.

He said: “About 20 yards behind the skip in the alleyway between houses in Aberdeen Terrace we had a BMW car which someone had attempted to set fire to but had been unsuccessful.

“We got called to the skip but while we were putting the skip fire out we noticed the car was behind it and then we had a look at that because it was in a strange place.”

Crews had also spotted a bin on fire at the top of Aberdeen Place as they made their way to the skip fire.

Mr Gobbi said: “As we drove down to the skip fire we noticed this little bin was on fire, but we drove past that to get to the skip fire because that was the most serious incident.”

Crews also dealt with the bin fire while at the scene.

Mr Gobbi warned of the dangers of leaving skips close to houses.

He said: “Putting skips this close to properties is extremely dangerous.

“If it hadn’t been Eid today and people being up and about, the skip fire could have quite easily spread to the adjacent houses, especially as one of them was empty.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said a 51-year-old man had been arrested and then released without charge.
