A postmaster’s large-scale pencil drawings of warlike angels have impressed the organiser of an art show.
John Garforth, 65, is known to most as the face behind the counter at Burley -in-Wharfedale Post Office, in Main Street, but few know about his artistic talents.
He will be exhibiting his work for the first time at Ilkley Art Show, in King’s Hall and Winter Garden, today and tomorrow.
Each angel stands about 5ft tall and takes up to three months to complete.
And they have impressed show organiser, Tim Tennant, who runs The Art Shop in South Hawksworth Street.
Mr Garforth said: “It just came to me about the angels and how when we look about the world, we see conflict and war.
“They’re real Old Testament angels, armoured up for fighting evil.”
The show is open from 10am to 4pm. Tickets cost £3 or £2.50 on the door.
