A Bradford father-of-two said he was left feeling “violated” after his house was burgled while he visited his wife in hospital.
Daniel Gorman, 32, who lives with his wife and daughters in Bradford Road, Clayton , said his family had been “really, really hurt” by the burglary, which he said happened when they were preparing to go on holiday.
Among the items taken, he said, were a limited edition Xbox 360 console, a Nintendo DS, a computer and 15 games, worth £40 each. Money the family had saved for their holiday to Spain was also taken.
Mr Gorman said: “They took everything of the kids. They took the computer they do their homework on, their consoles, all the games.”
He said when he returned from Bradford Royal Infirmary , where his wife Danielle, 31, who has Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, was undergoing chemotherapy, he found the bathroom window had been prised open.
He said: “It made me feel disgusted and violated and the fact that my wife was in hospital having chemotherapy, it made me feel worse.”
He said his daughters Chelsea, ten, and Kelly, 12, had been upset by the burglary, which happened on July 28.
The Xbox which was taken was irreplaceable, said Mr Gorman. “I can’t get that again, it was one of a kind,” he said. “It’s a Halo Reach, which makes it more valuable.
“They have really, really hurt us. It is the inconvenience. Going on holiday, the only time we’ve got together, we have had to run round and borrow money. The fact that someone could do it while somebody’s in hospital, it makes me feel worse because I felt vulnerable.”
Mr Gorman said a window at his flat had been smashed in the early hours of the morning two days before the burglary.
Police confirmed they are investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Airedale and North Bradford CID on 101.
