An annual charity football tournament in memory of a Keighley man killed in a construction accident in Bradford will take place this Sunday.
The Stiggy Cup commemorates Highfield man Steven Allen, known to friends as Stiggy, who played football for Keighley Royal. He died in 2007 during the construction site in Manningham .
The contest will be at Silsden Football Club’s ground in Keighley Road, from 10.30am until late afternoon. There will also be a tombola and raffle and refreshments.
Mr Allen’s mother, Judith, said: “A lot of people are giving up their time to help. Hopefully, we will have a nice day, but we always play whatever the weather.”
She said much of the organisation for the tournament was being done by Keighley men Martin Crangle and Derek Newiss, along with family and friends of her late son.
The five-a-side tournament has been running for several years and its proceeds have supported a number of local charities, including the Handicapped Children’s Pilgrimage Trust.
