A 24-year-old man injured a police officer when he recklessly backed into a patrol car in a bid to evade the law, Bradford Crown Court heard.
Aftab Ali, a catering worker, panicked and sped off down the city’s Bolton Hall Road when officers asked him to stop.
He pulled into a dead end and reversed into the police vehicle to try to get away.
Ali, of Arnold Place, Manningham , Bradford, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on February 28.
The court heard yesterday that the officer suffered a minor arm injury and his vehicle was damaged.
Ali was very remorseful. He apologised to the officer and offered to pay him compensation.
Judge Colin Burn sentenced Ali to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, with a probation service requirement and 160 hours of unpaid work.
He was banned from driving for 12 months.
