Look who’s just moved in to St Leonard’s Farm.
The furry family of four meerkats have made themselves at home in a specially-built new enclosure complete at the Esholt attraction with observation tower and hidey-holes to burrow in.
The sister and three brothers are the farm’s most exotic inhabitants yet, although they do have some rare breed neighbours including chinchillas and rheas – a large, flightless bird.
Farm spokesman Simon Ingham said: “Our meerkats are proving popular and very entertaining to watch – it beats seeing the fake ones on the TV ads!”
Meerkats mainly come from the South African plains, although the Esholt ones hail from a bit nearer home, and have amazing eyesight, seeing up to two miles away.
Mr Ingham said: “They’ve got to be alert for swooping eagles – not that there’s much chance of them round here, the only airborne predators are likely to be police helicopters!”
