housands of music lovers are expected to flock to the North Yorkshire dales next week to see some of the UK’s most cutting-edge acts alongside some musical legends.
Following the disappointment of seeing last year’s event rained-off, organisers of this year’s Beacons Festival have described the upcoming event as a “dream line-up”.
The three-day music and arts festival, which was forced to be cancelled at the last minute last year due to flooding, will this year feature Roots Manuva, regarded as a founding father of UK hip-hop, legends of reggae roots and ska music Toots And The Maytals and Mercury Prize nominees Wild Beasts.
Organiser Ash Kollakowski said he was looking forward to this year’s festival following last year’s problems.
He said: “The day after the festival was cancelled last year, we re-arranged a lot of the acts to play in Leeds – following that, we re-structured the festival and I started work instantly on this year.
“It was either bite the bullet and get on with it, or bury your head and never do anything again.”
Ash said it looked like tickets were due to sell out for the festival, which takes place at the Funkirk Estate near Skipton , from Friday, August 17, to Sunday, August 19.
He said: “We’re so excited we’re going to sell out, before the event at this rate.
“We’ve had such a great response, loads of positive people from last year have carried their tickets over too, so that gave us a big head-start in terms of word-of-mouth.”
The weekend will feature almost 100 other musical acts, including the likes of Willy Mason, Ghostpoet, Andrew Weatherall and Cass Mccombs.
But Ash said it was difficult to pick who the 5,000 music fans should be looking to check out over the weekend.
He said: “Hard to say as the line-up is pretty much my dream line-up. I think big things will be on the horizon for Swim Deep, Splashh, Hookworks and Savages.
“Jessie Ware’s album is out the day after Beacons, that’s going to be huge!
“Disclosure are playing a live set, they are destined for world domination.
“Maya Jane Coles is just on the brink of exploding, so her set closing the festival on Sunday will be a definite one not to miss.”
