Bradford urban-Bhangra artist Nindy Kaur has paid a musical tribute to a late artist she collaborated with.
The moving song, Tut Gaya Dil, is dedicated to music producer Kuly of urban chart-toppers RDB, who died from a brain tumour earlier this year. It features rap star Smooth, who collaborated with Nindy on Aloo Chaat.
Tut Gaya Dil is written by Nindy, Smooth and Kuly’s father Harjog Singh.
“Not only did I lose my brother-in-law, but a true friend, my biggest support and studio buddy. The atmosphere in the studio will never be same,” says Nindy, who is from Bradford.
“Smooth is like a brother and we’ve shared many good times with Kuly when making songs like Aloo Chaat. When he asked me to be part of this song, there was no way I’d ever refuse. Smooth defines talent and his lyrics sum up everything we’re going through.”
Nindy has released her first two hit singles from debut solo album, Nindypendent. Earlier this year, she released Save The World, a fusion of dance coupled with Nindy’s Punjabi kick, produced by Culture Shock, who have worked with Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Nicole Scherzinger.
Nindy, who has sung on Bollywood soundtracks, mixes traditional bhangra beats with mainstream dance music, R&B and pop.
Growing up in Bradford, she was influenced by the bhangra scene and R&B. "I love loud, up-tempo bass beats,” she says.
As an ambassador for the International Indian Film Awards – the Indian equivalent to the Oscars – Nindy performed for an audience of millions at the awards ceremony.
"It was an honour to be asked. It’s an amazing feeling to be entertaining millions of people and seeing so many fans jamming to your songs,” says Nindy.
