Teenage singer Jake Bugg, said to combine the folky charm of Donovan with the Northern attitude of Arctic Monkeys, will be taking to the stage at next month’s Bingley Music Live .
After debut single Trouble Town attracted the attention of the likes of DJ Zane Lowe and Jools Holland, Jake has been playing festivals this summer, supported Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds on tour and played with Stone Roses at a secret Olympics show earlier this week.
Current single Taste has been played on Radio 1 and shortly after Jake’s debut album is released in October, he reunites with Noel Gallagher on a US tour.
“I like to swing from genre to genre – country, indie, even a bit of reggae,” says Jake, 18. “I take influences from all over but people are calling my stuff rootsy, which is fine by me.
“I started writing at 14 and I didn’t really notice that my voice was developing in a particular way. At first I couldn’t sing a note, but I worked and worked at it.”
Catch Jake at Bingley Music Live on September 1.
