Detectives are hunting vicious street muggers who ripped jewellery from the necks of two terrified women.

The victims, who had a four-year-old child with them when they were attacked, were left shocked and frightened by the violent daylight robbery.

A 26-year-old woman, her young daughter and her 32-year-old aunt were walking on a path in Great Horton , Bradford, when the attack took place.

The family was walking home after shopping at a supermarket in Great Horton Road and was heading through a ginnel running off Bartle Lane, at the back of Brackenhill School, when the two robbers pounced.

Two men suddenly ran towards them, grabbed both women around the neck and ripped the necklaces they were wearing from them.

The muggers then tried to pull bangles from the wrist of the 32-year-old woman, who was thrown to the ground as she clung on to her jewellery. She suffered minor injuries to her shoulder and arm but did not need hospital treatment.

The suspects fled out of the snicket into Bartle Lane and towards Great Horton Road.

It is thought they could then have got into a red car to make their escape.

Detective Inspector Tony Nicholson said it had been an unprovoked and violent robbery. He said: “It was a nasty offence, made worse by the fact that a young child was present throughout.

“We urge anyone who knows who might be responsible, or has any information about the offence, to come forward.”

The robbery happened at about 4.45pm on Wednesday.

The suspects were Asian men, aged about 23 or 24. One was 5ft 7ins, slim, and wearing black tracksuit bottoms, white trainers and a black hooded top with the hood up.

The second man was 5ft 9ins and was wearing black tracksuit bottoms and a black jumper.
