A teenage cyclist from Queensbury was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries after falling 100ft from a cliff yesterday.
The 18-year-old mountain biker, who was not wearing a helmet, was cycling with a friend at Shibden Head, in Queensbury , when he hit a rock and was thrown down the incline into a river.
Firefighters from Illingworth and Cleckheaton fire stations were called to the scene to carry out a rope rescue at 2.30pm, helped by members of the Calder Valley Moorland Rescue Association and a specialist ambulance team.
The teenager, who is believed to have fractured his leg, was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for treatment, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
