Detectives are hunting a gunman who fired a shotgun at a family home.
A 42-year-old man living at the house in Hawthorne Drive, Thorpe Edge , Bradford, with his family was alerted at 11.40pm on Wednesday by the sound of two shots.
He alerted police and when he went to investigate he discovered damage had been caused to the front door and a window of his house had been shattered.
Armed officers were sent to the scene but no suspects could be traced.
The damage to the house was examined and is believed to be consistent with the discharge of a firearm, possibly a shotgun.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Thomas, crime manager for Airedale and North Bradford Police, said it was an isolated and targeted incident, not linked to other shooting incidents in the district. He said the man lived at the property with his family.
Det Chief Insp Thomas said: “We are working with the victim to understand whether there is anything in his history which would bring this to his doorstep.
“We take any incident like this extremely seriously and have dedicated a team of officers to investigate it thoroughly and professionally. We would seek to reassure the community that this is isolated and we will do everything we can to detect those responsible, locate the firearm and have it removed from the streets of Bradford.”
Inquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for any witnesses to contact Airedale and North Bradford CID via 101. They are particularly appealing for anyone who saw a silver car in the Hawthorne Drive area at the time of the incident to come forward.
