Bradford’s City Park is set to come alive this weekend with a special youth-inspired street culture event organised by Bradford Council.
Bradford Big Dance takes place on Saturday and will be a high-energy fusion of street dance, free running, skateboard and BMX.
Two times World Street Dance Champions and four times UK Street Dance Champions, Plague will be performing with dance legend, Brook Milliner, who starred in movie Street Dance 3D.
Local teenagers will also get the opportunity to see Malik Diouf, one of the co-creators of Parkour, a kind of urban gymnastics performed around urban features such as walls, stairs, and railings.
Diouf is collaborating with a UK group, Prodigal Theatre's Urban Playground Team, to blend free running and theatre to produce The Inner City, a breathtaking Performance-Parkour piece.
The Big Dance will also feature Team Extreme, the UK's top professional BMX, skateboarding, inline and urban artists.
Team Extreme will perform stunts and tricks on their half pipe, a special giant u-shaped ramp.
Local dancers will mix it up with BD4 Youth Dance to perform an original piece, Time Out 4 Culture.
There will also be an opportunity to see a brand new piece of work, Champions of Dance, performed by the Bradford Dance Network.
It celebrates London 2012 by blending cheerleading, South Asian, tap, street and contemporary dance.
Dozens of youngsters from local dance school DM Academy will also perform a tap dance routine, in their wellies in Bradford’s mirror pool as part of the celebrations. Sixty pupils and parents from the Shipley dance school will be performing Singin’ in the Rain.
Susan Hinchcliffe, the Council’s portfolio holder for employment, skills and culture said: “This is going to be a really exciting event with a great opportunity for all of us to experience some of the breath-taking displays that Malik Diouf is famous for.
“City Park is a big attraction for young Bradfordians so I'm sure this will be an event to remember.”
The Big Dance runs on Saturday, July 14, between noon and 7pm in City Park, near Bradford's City Hall.
It has been organised by the Council with funding from the National Lottery and Arts Council England.
