Britain’s Got Talent star Martyn Crofts fulfilled his dream of opening Skipton Gala at the weekend, entertaining crowds with his Dalek impersonating act.

The Skipton mortgage underwriter, who was a semi-finalist on the ITV talent show, managed to mention the date of the event at his televised audition and get it trending on social networking site Twitter.

He told judges including Simon Cowell that it was his wish to open Skipton Gala – and on Saturday it was granted by organisers of the Aireville Park event.

Martyn, wearing a diamante saucepan on his head, thrilled the crowds with his act, before Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists, wheelchair dancer Paula Moulton and organist Graham Blackledge, took to the gala stage.

The event started with a procession of floats, walking groups and bands from Westmoreland Street, before action on the field kicked off with the crowning of gala queen, Poppy Brent.

Wet weather failed to dampen spirits on the day, with highlights including a performance by the HM Dog Display Team, regular performers at Crufts Dog Show, wrestling, and Wild West action with a cowboy shoot out.
