Motorists in South Craven are being urged to be extra vigilant when driving through residential areas this summer.
The lighter evenings traditionally see a rise in road accidents involving children, as they play outside.
Now 95 Alive – the York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership – is asking all motorists to drive with youngsters’ safety in mind and be particularly careful near parked cars, ice cream vans, junctions, schools and play areas.
County Councillor Gareth Dadd, North Yorkshire’s executive member for road safety, said: “As adults we need to anticipate that children will run into the road without taking heed when they’re playing. We need to drive with a little more caution in order to help keep children safe.”
