An inquiry has started into a blaze that badly damaged a house in Bradford early today.

The fire consumed the ground and first floor of the unoccupied, two-storey building in Paternoster Lane, Great Horton.

Firefighters from Odsal and Bradford stations tackled the blaze.

The aerial appliance based in Bradford was called to assist with damping down.

Watch commander Andy Mason, of Odsal fire station, said: “It was a fierce fire when we arrived. It has caused extensive damage from the ground floor to the roof.”

He said the unoccupied building was in the process of being renovated and had possibly been used as a mosque or a Muslim school.
