Fire crews from Odsal and Bradford were called to a house fire in Paternoster Lane, Great Horton, Bradford, at 1.53am today.

The fire was in the ground and first floor of the unoccupied, two-storey building and firefighters used breathing apparatus, one hose reel and two small jets to tackle the blaze.

The aerial appliance from Bradford was called to assist with damping down. A fire investigations officer has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.

Watch commander Andy Mason from Odsal Fire Station said: “It was fierce fire when we arrived. It has caused extensive damage from the ground floor to the roof.”

He said the unoccupied building was in the process of being renovated and had possibly been used as a mosque or a Muslim school.

Fire crews are still at the scene damping down.
