A female employee at a bookmakers was punched in the face by robbers as she delivered bank holiday takings to the post office.

The 22-year-old was attacked from behind by at least two men as she walked to the Oak Lane Post Office in Manningham, Bradford.

They tried to wrench her bag from her shoulder and she was dragged to the ground. When the bag straps got caught around her shoulder, she was twice punched in the face.

The robbers made off with the bag, which contained a large amount of money.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was left shocked by the incident, but did not need hospital treatment.

Detective Sergeant Ken Robinson, of Bradford South CID, said it was a “mean and nasty” attack.

Police are studying CCTV footage for clues to the identity of the robbers and are appealing for witnesses to the robbery, which took place outside Oak Lane fish and chip shop between 1.15pm and 1.30pm on Wednesday.

Officers are trying to obtain descriptions of the offenders. Anyone with information can contact Bradford South CID on (01274) 376623 or via the non-emergency 101 number, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
