Praise be! A 20-foot tall angel is about to appear in St Wilfrid’s Churchyard in Calverley.
The ancient churchyard, which has won a Gold Award from Leeds In Bloom, will be a heaven-sent location for the wooden carved angel which is being funded by local business Green Leeds and local councillors.
The angel is being created by Otley artist Shane Green and will be carved from the remains of a 200-year-old beech tree which was damaged by a storm last year.
Vicar of St Wilfrids, the Reverend John Walker, said: “It’s an incredible project which will capture the imaginations of everyone who will be drawn to our immaculately kept churchyard.”
The carving starts on Tuesday and a short dedication ceremony is planned for noon on Sunday, June 24.
