A young boy with a rare blood disorder has inspired a life-saving appeal.
Later this month, a bone marrow recruitment clinic will be held for Reuben Grainger-Mead, who has a form of pure red cell aplasia - a condition which means he cannot produce red blood cells.
The rare illness requires Reuben, who last week celebrated his sixth birthday, to have regular blood transfusions. At some point in the future he might need a bone marrow transplant.
Now the Anthony Nolan Trust has stepped in and with the help of the Reuben And Friends charity, established by his family, has set up a donor recruitment clinic on Wednesday, October 18, at the Aakash Restaurant in Brad-ford Road, Cleckheaton, between 3pm and 8pm.
Each person who registers will be given a two-for-one voucher to be used for the a la carte menu at the restaurant.
The Anthony Nolan Trust helps patients like Reuben, of Lower Lane, Little Gomersal, by holding a register of volunteers who are willing to donate bone marrow.
In most cases this transplant offers the patient their only chance of survival.
Rebecca Sedgwick, of the Anthony Nolan Trust, said: "We are hoping local people will think seriously about becoming donors."
Donors must be 18-40, in good health and weigh more than eight stone (51kg) but not be severely overweight.
Key target groups are male donors, young donors and donors from all ethnic minority backgrounds.
