Terry Newton aims to immediately banish his Grand Final disappointment by bringing home the Tri-Nations trophy.

After the gutted Bulls missed out on Old Trafford, the majority of their squad must now wait until the start of a new Super League season in February to put things right.

But robust hooker Newton won't be getting a break as he meets up with Great Britain today ready to fly out to Australia in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

The tough operator is relishing the chance to do battle on the international scene after the heartache of seeing Bradford's title quest dashed in agonising style.

Steve McNamara's men had three tries disallowed before going down 19-12 at Hull and Newton said: "It was hard to take.

"We were gutted on Friday. We thought we could go all the way but obviously a couple of things went against us.

"At the end of the day though I thought Hull defended outstandingly well. It was really difficult to break them down.

"Now it's going to be a massive game in the final for them against Saints."

Having completed his first season at Grattan Stadium, the former Wigan ace is pumped up for Lions duty.

Compared to some of his battle-weary team-mates, he will head Down Under in top shape having missed the first 11 games of the year through suspension.

"I should be but my head's absolutely pounding and I feel rough as a dog!" laughed Newton yesterday, the morning after Bradford's end-of-season blow-out. "It wasn't an ideal situation with the ban but, on the other hand, I've only played 21 games this year so I feel like I'm only halfway through.

"Hopefully I can go out there and give it to the Aussies and Kiwis.

"It's going to be a hard tour, six or seven weeks, and it's a long time to be away from the family, but it's going to be a good one. There's no reason why we can't bring that trophy back."

Then Newton will set about returning silverware to Odsal in Super League XII.

He is yet to win a Grand Final, having featured in and lost all three with Leeds and Wigan.

The 27-year-old signed for Bradford with the aim of ending that trend, although ironically this season the champions failed to reach Old Trafford for the first time since 2000.

But Newton added: "I've loved it here and we'll come back next season better.

"I know I will as a player. I've started getting used to Iestyn (Harris) and Deacs around me and Steve McNamara has done a great job towards the back end of this season.

"Next year we'll be pushing for that Grand Final again."
