Young people will tonight be recognised for their exceptional achievements at a ceremony at St George’s Hall, Bradford.

In a change to the line-up of well-known faces set to appear at the event, Andrew Moss, who plays Rhys in Hollyoaks, will attend, alongside members of the Bradford Bulls squad, Waterloo Road star Reece Douglas, newsreader Christa Ackroyd and Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Naveeda Ikram at the Young Citizens awards.

Mr Moss’s Hollyoaks co-star Victoria Atkin is now not able to appear, organisers have said.

A total of 28 young people and groups have been shortlisted in the awards, the winners of which will be revealed tonight.

All the tickets have been snapped up for the event, which will include live performances from eight young acts. Students and staff at St Bede’s Catholic Grammar School and St Benedict’s sixth-form have been involved in the preparations, providing table settings which depict each of the award categories.

Kath Tunstall, Bradford Council’s strategic director of children’s services, said: “The awards ceremony is a terrific event. It shows how many young people across the district work hard to make a difference to other people as well as themselves. I want to thank everyone who has helped support the event, especially our sponsors, and all the young people involved.”

Debbie Forsythe-Conroy, assistant principal at Bradford College, will present the education and achievement award.

She said: “We are very pleased to be sponsoring this award.”

Other sponsors include Incommunities, Kirkgate Shopping Centre, Yorkshire Building Society and Bradford Council’s B-someone campaign.

The awards are run in partnership with the Telegraph & Argus, Bradford Children’s Trust, Bradford Council and Young Lives Bradford.
