Luke Morgan scored the goal as City's second string edged out West Brom in last night's Pontin's Holidays League Central Division clash.

The Baggies were the first to go close to breaking the deadlock when, on ten minutes, Stuart Nicholson homed in on Ben Saynor's goal but his final touch let him down.

Saynor was not called into action again until 15 minutes later when Dean Nicholson saw a long-range attempt parried and then gathered well by the City keeper.

Minutes later the Bantams' defence was all over the place, allowing Stuart Nicholson to get an easy shot in on goal but his effort was just wide.

City striker Eddie Johnson then took the ball on well to the 18-yard line and passed to Patrick McGuire but he failed to control and the immediate danger was cleared.

On the half-hour mark, Morgan was fouled and the resulting free-kick saw Sean Taylforth play a superb ball on to Matthew Clarke, who was making his comeback from a groin strain. The City defender volleyed well, only to see his effort well saved by Russell Hoult.

Taylforth combined again well with Clarke five minutes later from a corner. Clarke tried to flick the ball on but it bounced out of play.

Four minutes before the break, Ben Manchester and Clarke clashed heads, leading to the Baggies defender being stretchered off, although he was able to return to the action after treatment.

A relatively uneventful first half came to a close when Morgan put City in front from a free-kick in time added on, his shot from 20 yards giving Hoult no chance.

Morgan spurned a chance to double City's lead minutes after the restart but he sent the ball over the crossbar.

Soon after that, Dean Nicholson was guilty of a similar miss for the visitors.

Steven Mitchell failed to make the best of a fine ball from Johnson when he shot wide on 53 minutes and this was to be almost the last Johnson was to see of the game as he went off as a precautionary measure after taking a knock to his ankle.

Nick Smith, on for Johnson, linked up well with Joe Brown, who rifled in a shot which flew wide of the mark. Clarke then made way for Damian Hopkins.
